Then they read, "Easter Eggs Everywhere" by Steve Metzger and Miss Gobin informed the students that the Easter Bunny needs some help this year and has posted a few different jobs. Some of the positions include Egg Design Assistant, Egg Hiding Assistant, Spring Animal Assistant, Chocolate Tasting Assistant, Spring Garden Assistant and an Egg Security Assistant. Each job posting also had special criteria and skills needed for the position. The students were asked to read about each posting and select a job that would suit them.
After choosing the job they would be applying for, the students filled in an application, including their name, age, where they live and describe their favourite tradition or Easter treat. Using a name generator, they also came up with their own "bunny" name.
Then they picked four criteria needed for the job and used an organizer to write down convincing evidence of how they are skilled in that area.
Using their organizer, they began to write a persuasive letter to the Easter Bunny starting with an opening paragraph, followed by convincing arguments about what they are fit for the job. Next week, they will finish their sloppy copies and make a published copy so that they can apply for the job.
We added to our "Language Notebooks" by reviewing nouns. We talked about a noun being a "person", "place" or "thing". The student brainstormed a variety of words to go under each heading and filled out their notes. After completing their work on nouns, they finished a short activity circling all of the nouns found in a number of different sentences.
Our class started a new novel study called "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" by Beverly Cleary. We read chapter one together and the students answered a variety of comprehension questions. They also worked in their booklets, completing an activity to describe one of the main characters and the setting. They came up with a lot of great adjectives!
In Math, we continued working on division. The students learned...
-how to make addition sentences with division sentences
-how to make division sentences with addition sentences
-how to make division equations with word problems
-how to make two multiplication equations and two division equations from a picture
We continued learning about the culture in Ukraine. This week we read about the services offered in the city and in villages. The students worked on their sketch notes independently and then we added information to our class set of jot notes.
Our spring kites and poems were put together this week and hung up in a variety of places around our classroom. The students are very proud of their final project!
We had another student fly this week! Keep on reading!!!
