Parent Meetings...

Thank you so much for attending Parent Meetings this week. We enjoyed meeting all of you and we know the students were very excited to show you all of the following work...

1. Paragraph writing
2. Math Test
3. Self-Evaluation of work habits
4. Goal setting
5. Monster Under My Bed
6. Pet Rock project
7. Mapping projects
8. Scarecrow Art

We appreciate all of your support and we look forward to continue working together with you as a team to support your child!

We completed our Christmas cards for the RBES fundraiser this week so that they were ready to show off at the Parent Meetings. If you are ordering, please make sure your form and money is handed in before November 9th. THANK YOU!

Throughout the year, your child will be setting individual goals. Once the students have reached their goal, they will get a gold star around their picture and set a new goal. We hope this bulletin board is "shining bright" by the end of the school year.

In Language Arts this week, we read "Where the Wild Things Are". We talked about how using descriptive words in our writing helps the reader to visualize what is happening in the story. As we read through the story, the students were asked to think about the words being used and create a picture in their head.

After reading the book we started working on our "Monster Under the Bed" paragraphs. We completed most of the paragraph as a class, writing sentence by sentence so the students could focus  on using "juicy" words and adjectives. After completing their sloppy copy, they were edited and written as a good copy. We hope you had a chance to read your child's paragraph describing their monster. If you didn't, these will be placed in their Memory Books for the end of the year.

We read another story from the Collections Series. We love how confident our class is becoming with volunteering to read aloud!

We completed 3 more letters in our cursive writing books; Uu, Ww and Tt. The students LOVE handwriting time. They are so excited to see what words we can spell with the letters we've learned. Some are even starting to write their agenda note in handwriting!

We completed a quiz and a test this week to assess the students on their patterning skills. We sent home a few games with you on Parent Meeting night. We hope that you will have an opportunity to play these with your child to help them with their number sense and to increase their confidence in their ability to do mental math.

We moved on in our patterning unit to skip count by 5, 25 and even by 100's. This knowledge will be added to and it will lead into counting coins.

The students brought in their Mapping Project at the beginning of the week. The class loved looking at all of the creative ideas. We are very proud of the effort this group put into this project at home.

We also continued working through our mapping unit by finding where we live on the map of Canada. Then we had to label a map with all of the provinces and territories. Our class did a great job recalling and working together to locate each one. Finally, they were given an activity where the provinces and territories were spelled incorrectly and they had to rewrite them with the correct spelling.

Here are the super readers for the week! Way to go!!!

We performed at the assembly this week! Thank you to the parents who were able to join us to listen to our song...Be a Friend,  Don't Be a Bully! The students did a fantastic job!!

For Art this week, we read a story called Monster Mama. We did a directed drawing of the boy from the story and coloured it with oil pastels. Next week we will add the paint, which will be "blown" with a straw to create the effect of the crazy hair.

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!!
