Merry Christmas!

We ended the week with PJ day and our class celebrated Christmas a little early with a delicious brunch! Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help and a special thanks to Kym Simon, who also brought in her guitar and sang Christmas carols with us!

Mr. Coffin and Mrs. Kloschinsky also treated our school to an afternoon movie in the gym! The students had cozy spots to lay, to watch "The Croods".

The students wrote about their favourite Christmas Traditions which will be published in the Devon Dispatch!

We continued with our elf reports and had some special surprises from our elf, Sweetheart! We enjoyed the candy canes she brought, the Christmas erasers and the super exciting delivery from the North Pole, our Santa letter replies!

This week, we did many activities related to the Polar Express. We did a movie/book comparison as well as a readers theater skit. Some of the groups really got into the part, using props during the performance.

In Math, we completed our unit on subtraction with regrouping by looking at various word problems and deciding how to solve them. We also had a math quiz to wrap up the unit.

We completed 3 more cursive writing letters this week. The students now know how to properly form Ss, Oo and Hh.

The students created a top secret Christmas gift which had them sponging, painting, stamping and operating a die cut machine (with the help of Mrs. Kloschinsky). Thank you to Mrs. Preece for helping us wrap them!

Thank you also for the Christmas pencils Mrs. Preece!

In Social Studies, we are working through our India Travel Journal, learning about a boy named Ravi that lives in the town of Milak. We have read about what life is like for Ravi at home and how it compares to the city and country in India.

We also started our Mandala books. The meaning of mandala comes from Sanskrit meaning "circle". Madalas offer balancing visual elements, symbolizing unity and harmony.

This week, we changed up our reading block and the students spent some time reading together in different places around the school. Our class was very responsible and stayed on task during the reading time.

Way to go! We had a lot of kids fly this week!

Congrats to our new Student of the Week!

Have a wonderful Christmas break and see you in 2019!
