Children's Festival

What a fun field trip!!
Kaput

Complete with ladders, buckets, plank gags and circus music, Kaput told the tale of the clumsy, larger-than-life "Mr. Fixit" who, despite his best efforts to perform the simplest of tasks, only managed to fuel the catastrophe unfolding around him.

Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Workshop

Cheremosh School of Dance instructors guided us through a variety of dance steps and allowed us to showcase our newly learned dance skills in a "Kolomeyka".

Sound Lab

Dr. Dave, showed us how sound effects and music make movies and games come alive. The students had the opportunity to explore the secrets of sound creation and used it to tell a story.

Ache Brasil
Equal parts of music, dance, martial arts and acrobatics infused the culture, traditions, music and movement of the Brazillian people into a spectacle of energy and colour.

Wandering the festival....

For Language Arts this week, we have continued working on our illustrations for our published stories. They are almost all complete and look fabulous!!

We are still reading Charlotte's Web and enjoying all the "juicy" words. The students have been learning and adding many new words to our vocabulary list.

In place of our regular spelling words this week, we did a review activity and tied it in with some math. The students had fun using the word wall words and figuring out the "value" of those words.

In Math, we finished our fractions unit off with a "show what you know". The students all did a fantastic job and we have now moved on to measurement.
We began the unit with various hands on activities this week and reading the book "Measuring Penny".

We learned about the difference between non-standard and standard units of measurement. The students learned how to make a pendulum and used this to as a non-standard unit to measure time.

They enjoyed using a ruler to measure items around the class, following specific criteria (eg. greater than 25cm, less than 25cm and about 25cm).

In Science, we are wrapping up our Life Cycles study, as the students complete their slideshows. We look forward to the presentation of all their research next week!

We received an exciting delivery this week!!

In Social, the students have been busy gathering the last of their research information. They will be transferring this to their "suitcase" display next week. We look forward to the completion of this activity and the group presentations that will follow.

For gym this week, we enjoyed the beautiful weather on our bikes.

Thank you to the SOS committee for the popcorn fundraiser!

We enjoyed a hilarious performance done by the Grade 4 Drama group! We have some future stars that are excited to join Drama next year!

Reader's Theatre!

Our class was beyond excited to perform the Reader's Theatre they have been practicing during class and at home. Props, costumes and makeup were even brought to school by some of our performers. We did two shows and invited 1K and 1L to be our audience, as they are also learning about "fractured tales" as part of their Language Arts program.

The Three Little Elephants

Goldilocks and the Three Bullfrogs

Spiderella

In Math, we started our unit on fractions, by reading a few books.

This week we talked about numerators and denominators. We began exploring different fractions that represent part of a whole. We did a number of activities to explore fractions such as paper folding and using fraction rods.

We learned how to write fractions when given pictures of shaded areas.

The student's also sparked a conversation about equivalent fractions.

In Science, the student's have gathered all of the information they need to begin their Google slide presentations.

Our butterfly pointillism pictures are now complete. This week, they explored creating different shades by mixing yellow, orange and red.

We had some surprise guests visit our school on Friday afternoon. The "Carnival of Calamities" came to give us a short preview of their performance at Devon Days!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
