We would like to welcome Ms. Gobin, who will be with us for the next five weeks. She has been in our classroom for a few visits and joined us at the Oil Kings game. Ms. Gobin is a student teacher from the University of Alberta and will be involved in teaching lessons and working with small groups of students.
In Language Arts this week, we finished publishing the "My Lucky Day" stories by typing and editing them on the computer. They also worked on their title pages to complete the project!
We completed our Month of Munsch by reading three stories by Robert Munsch. The students worked on activities to demonstrate their ability to make connections, differentiate between facts and opinion statements, make predictions and ask meaningful questions while reading.
They also participated in a reader's theater of "Andrew's Loose Tooth". The students worked on their expression and fluency when reading their lines aloud to the class.
They worked through a Making Words activity using the letters; a, i, o, b, s, n, t, r, r, m. After completing their lists of smaller words, they figured out that the mystery word was brainstorm! WOW!
In Math, we started our new unit on Division and the students worked on:
- learning how to share equally when the number of sets is known
- learning to find the number of sets when the number of items in each set is known
We continued our study of Tunisia this week by completing our Travel Journal. The students were also given one final project to create a post card on the chromebooks, telling their parents about their vacation. They were asked to include an image and four facts that they learned while visiting the country.
The students enjoyed an afternoon celebrating Tunisian culture. They created bean mosaics and learned how to weave using a straw loom. The class tried a few new foods; couscous, bread with olive oil and zaatar seasoning, dates and baklava.
Congratulations to our super star readers!!!
