Enjoying the fresh snow!!!

Well, it looks like we had signed up for the perfect day to try out the snowshoes. The students LOVED walking through the fresh snow, creating new tracks. Even though it wasn't the warmest weather, the kids made the best of it and probably would have stayed out awhile longer. Thank you so much to Mr. Hanly who came out to lend us a hand!

Our class enjoyed a PIZZA PARTY from DOMINOS! Thank you to everyone who donated to our Spell-a-thon this year!

In Language Arts this week, the students were given a very challenging "Making Words" activity using the following letters... a, e, e, e, u, t, t, p, m, r, r.  They worked hard on their own and then with a partner to create 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 letter words. A few of them actually figured out the mystery word which was TEMPERATURE! Be prepared to complete a "Making Words" activity at Student Led Conferences on Wednesday evening. :)

After reading a Robert Munsch story in our Collections series, we decided to do an author study and named March the Month of Munsch. We started by reading a short biography about Robert Munsch and used highlighters to find important facts. We will be reading a number of books throughout the month and completing activities to go with each. This week, we read "Mmmm Cookies" and "Alligator Baby". The students completed a sequencing activity and a page about the characters, setting, problem and solution.

We continued working on our All About Me Diary Entry #3. Student edited their work, making sure they had complete sentences with capitals and periods, looked for spelling errors and added missing details to their writing. The published copies are then illustrated.

In Math, the students learned how to make charts of multiples. They practiced their skip counting and completed multiplication questions and word problems.

WOW!!! The students did an AMAZING job building their bridges and demonstrating the knowledge and skills they learned throughout our building unit. They were very proud of their structures and did an excellent job presenting.

We started our new unit in Social and flew to Tunisia. We started by talking about where Tunisia is in relation to Canada. They coloured a map and a flag of the country. Each day, we will read the textbook together as a class. After discussing what we learned in the chapter, the students fill in one day of their travel journal, talking about their experience in the country and what they learned.

For Art this week, we talked about different animals from Africa. The students picked their favourite and cut out a copied silhouette. The silhouette will be placed on a sunset background that they created by using liquid water colour paints and blending techniques that they were taught. The final projects will be displayed for Student Led Conferences next week.

In PE, we worked on basketball skills; dribbling and passing.

Here is one of our super star readers, who is now heading around our room for the third time!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
