Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The students and staff at RBES pulled out their green clothing and accessories to celebrate the upcoming holiday on Sunday!

Thank you for coming out to Student Led Conferences! The students really enjoyed playing "Five in a Row", "Capture the Array", building mystery words, completing the Social Studies travel journal and showing off their "Lucky Day" story plan. They are so proud of their work and it was wonderful to see them "shine" as they shared with you what they have been learning.

For Language Arts this week, we read "The Luckiest Leprechaun" and the students continued working on their stories. They completed a worksheet planning out their characters, setting, beginning, middle and end. After they finished, they shared their ideas with a classmate.

They worked on sequencing the events in their story, thinking of all of the important parts leading up to the middle and then ending the story. After modelling a class story that they students helped write and edit, they used their own ideas to write their "sloppy copy". They were reminded to reread each section, editing their work for proper sentence structure and circling words they need help spelling.

The students also started publishing their story on the chromebooks and illustrating their title pages.

We read two passages this week, one about the formation of rainbows and the other about the history of St. Patrick's Day.  The students used their highlighters to pull out the important information needed to complete comprehension questions.

In Math, the students completed a quiz and unit test to conclude our Multiplication unit. They also practiced their basic facts by playing a few games and learning "Capture the Array" to prepare for Student Led Conferences. Next week, we will begin our new unit on division.

This week in Social, we continued reading about culture in Tunisia. The students filled out their travel journal with information they learned about services and the environment.

We had a very exciting week in PE!!! The Alberta Lacrosse Association ran a session and taught the students a few basic skills. They also loved trying some "fancy" moves using the lacrosse sticks!

SoundKreations dance residency is also with us for the next week. Our instructor, Leo, worked with us for two days this week teaching the students some dance routines and bringing a lot of energy into the gym. There will be a school performance next Wednesday from 1:45-2:45pm and all of the parents are welcome to attend!

Here are the eager readers this week!
