Devonian Botanic Garden Field Trip

On Monday, we spent the day at the Devonian Botanic Garden. We completed 2 different programs. Going Buggy looked at native insects of Alberta, insect adaptations, butterflies and insect life cycles. Wetland Wonders covered wetland ecosystems, animal adaptations, wildlife habitats and aquatic lifestyles. This field trip was very well laid out and the kids were exposed to many important curriculum topics and were engaged in hands on activities for the entire day.

On Tuesday, most of the students from our class went to the track meet. It was a beautiful day to spend out in the sun!!

The students remaining at school were able to watch our butterflies emerge! We now have 11 butterflies that will be released in the school yard.

We completed our last STAR reading assessment for the year. We are very proud of how far our students have come. Please continue to read with your child this summer.

On Thursday, we were treated to a performance by the grade 4 drama group. They an amazing job with their lines and we were a fabulous audience.

In Math, we completed our unit on Division and began our unit on Fractions. We learned that fractions always have equal parts and when we write a fraction, the number on top represents the number of parts that are used or shaded and the number on the bottom is the number of parts in the whole. We also learned that a unit fraction is a fraction that only has 1 equal part shaded.

In Social, we flew to Peru and are now learning about our final country. The students are always eager to volunteer to read a paragraph from the text book. We have read about the Festivals, Traditions and the Services in Peru. We have also done a comparison between living in the country and living in the city.

Congratulations to our super readers this week!!!! The goal for grade 3 is to fly to Peru by the end of the year, which is 3000 home reading minutes.

On Friday, some of our students met to make streamers for the Devon Days parade. Those students who participated could either walk, scooter or bike! The rain held off and it ended up being a fun morning!

Thank you this week's Student of the Week who shared a "Goosebumps" book with us and some delicious homemade cookies!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
