The Best Part of Me...

This week our students followed the format of this book to choose and write about what they feel is their "best part". The ideas were creative and their paragraphs were well done. They published them in their best handwriting!
We worked on using proper quotation marks in sentences in order to prepare for their next story. We talked about all of the proper punctuation that belongs in sentences containing quotation marks. As a class, we worked through a worksheet together and then the students were asked to build their own sentences using quotation marks.
The students also read a "Reading A-Z" level O (grade level) story and answered comprehension questions based on their reading. These were sent home today. A second reading was done together as a class and nearly all of the students were able to improve their mark. This showed them how important re-reading is and how pausing and reflecting on what has been read, increases comprehension.
To conclude our Geometry unit in Math, the students worked on building 3D shapes using clay and toothpicks.
We also started our new unit on Multiplication and Division. We read When the Doorbell rang and Bats on Parade and talked about dividing items into equal groups.
They also began working on their Star Wars Multiplication Puzzle Booklet.
The students were given the afternoon today, to finish up their Ukriane slideshows. They will be presenting these on Tuesday, so we can fly to our final country, Peru!
In Science, the students researched different types of bridges and recorded information into their bridge booklet. They really enjoyed looking at pictures and videos and comparing the different designs. Today they brought home a bridge assignment that is due next Friday.
In Gym, the students participated in a Mission Impossible obstacle course. This is always a favourite!
Ginger continues to bring excitement to our class after her evening adventures! The students who have had her visit their house, have come back with exciting write-ups about their activities! We look forward to hearing about all the things she gets to do!
Ginger also enjoyed "Read to Self" with these 2 boys!
Congrats to our readers!
