Education Week!

The students took part in a Zumba class as part of our Education Week! They were all engaged and loved learning new moves!
We also had a visit from the Devon Lion's Club. They came to read to all of the classes as part of their International Literacy Project.
They also left us with a special gift which we will read during snack time over the next couple of weeks.
The SWAT team taught our Grade 3 group a new game at recess time this week, called Four Squares.  We think it has become a favourite!
For Language Art, the students began a Backyard Bug descriptive writing project. We have been working on creating descriptive sentences with lots of detail. This assignment began with Mrs.Forchuk drawing a make believe bug and writing a descriptive paragraph to go with it. Mrs.Tewitz and the class read Mrs.Forchuk's paragraph and without seeing her picture, we attempted to draw based on her writing. We did a great job! The students really realized the importance of detail to create that visual image when reading.
After completing this project, the students were given the task to create their own drawing of a make believe bug. They had wonderful ideas!
They have now begun the writing process, creating descriptive paragraphs that match their drawings. The next step will be to trade paragraphs with a buddy and attempt drawing based on these descriptions.

The students wrote their Fractions test. They all did a wonderful job throughout this unit. We launched our new unit, Geometry by reading...
We have started learning about polygons.
We talked about shapes based on the number of sides they have. (Triangle~3, Quadrilateral~4, Pentagon~5, Hexagon~6, Heptagon~7, Octagon~8, Nonagon~9 and Decagon~10.)
Then the students played a game matching the polygon with the number of sides it had.
We also started sorting polygons.

In Social, the students continue to work on their Ukraine slideshow presentations.
As well, the students were excited to organize a Global Citizenship project for next week!
They have been busy making posters and getting ready for the sale.

We are so excited to see our students continue flying around the world by completing their Home Reading every evening. Way to go!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
All of the students worked on a special project this week! We wish all of the moms a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Mother's Day!
