Tunisian Lions....

We have had a busy week! We completed our lap books on Tunisia and have started the mini books that go along with the text. We will be completing our study of Tunisia over the next week and we will have our cultural celebration on the 18th.

For Art this week, the students followed a "directed draw" of a lion and were taught how to blend watercolour to paint the lions. They did a fantastic job! The lions will be displayed at student led conferences on the 16th.

The students were sent home with a list of 50 "high frequency" words for grade 3. The students have been practicing these words daily, ten at a time. Please make sure you are reviewing all the words for the Spell-a-thon test on March 17th.

We have completed our handwriting duotangs and recently did consonant combinations. The students have become excellent cursive writers! Ask your child to sign their name for you.

In Math, we finished our Addition and Suntraction unit. We will be starting Measurement next week.

We have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather during Healthy Hearts. "Spy tag" is a class favourite! They are sure good at running and freezing!

We completed 2 Survirvor challenges this week!

Challenge number 6! We spent the next day collecting berries and other edible items. We need a safe place to store our food that is out of reach of wild animals. We need to test the strength of palm tree leaves vs banana tree leaves. We found string and a pail on board our plane.
Bond Paper Leaves
Construction Paper Leaves - stronger

Challenge number 7! A few of our students have wandered off in search of Mason's shoes. Luckily, in their travels, they were able to locate a fresh drinking source. We have headed back to the plane to find any containers to store the fresh water in. However, our fresh water supply is limited, so we need to test the bottles to determine which will be the best to store our water safely. The shape of the container will affect its stability.
Conclusion

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
