Happy Mother's Day!

The students were busy this week working on a TOP SECRET project! We would like to wish all of the moms a very HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Thank you to the Devon Bears who came to check everyone's helmet. We really appreciate them taking time out of their day to help keep our students safe!

In Language Arts, the students worked on their All About Me-Diary of a Wimpy entry, writing paragraphs that included a topic sentence, details and a conclusion. They have been trying to edit their own work, making sure they have complete sentences with proper conventions and correct spelling.

We read chapters 7 and 8 of "The Mouse and the Motorcycle". The students wrote about how Ralph, the mouse, behaves recklessly and completed a venn diagram to compare/contrast the two main characters.

Making Words this week consisted of the letters a, e, u, u, o, d, t, v, r, s, n. After filling the entire page with 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 letter words, they discovered the mystery word which was ADVENTUROUS!

In Math, the students worked on rounding to the nearest meter. They also learned how to add meters and centimeters to get a total length.

The student have been working hard on their Ukrainian slideshow, adding details and images to their project. They will present their slides next week to the class.

In PE, the students worked through a variety of Minute to Win It stations. They sure had a lot of fun trying to see if they could complete the task or how many times they could do the skill in one minute.

The students worked on their scrapbook pages for their year end memory book.

So proud of the super star reader this week!

Congratulations to the next Student of the Week! (Two certificates were given out at this week's assembly due to PD next Friday.)

Education Week...

Thank you to our Education Committee who planned a variety of activities for the students and staff at RBES. We kicked off the week by enjoying a delicious pancake breakfast with some juicy fruit on the side. The students also participated in a school wide flower mosaic, collaborative story written by every classroom and a block of shared reading.

After five weeks of building a relationship and learning from Ms. Gobin, the students were sad to say good-bye. We appreciated her dedication to helping the students grow and wish her the best of luck in her teaching career!

In Language Arts, we completed our project based on the book "The Day the Crayons Quit". The students finished the good copies of their friendly letters by typing them on the chrome book. They were taught the proper format of the letter and checked over their work for spelling, capitalization and complete sentences. They also worked on title pages to make the project look complete.

The students were excited to rehearse a reader's theater about the complaining crayons. After practicing fluency and expression, they preformed the humorous piece of writing in front of an audience.

We read chapters five and six of "The Mouse and the Motorcycle". The students completed two activities; finding the problems and solutions in chapter five and writing about the mood at the beginning, middle and end of chapter six.

In our Language Notebooks, we talked about verb tenses. We wrote example sentences for the past, present and future.

In Math, we started our Measurement unit. The students worked on...
-estimating and measuring lengths to the closest centimeter
-drawing lines and objects of lengths, given in an exact number of centimeters, both with and without a ruler

In Social, the students started working on a final project for our Ukraine unit. They were put into pairs and assigned one of the following topics; culture, environment, government, goods, services, transportation, religion, food, celebrations and Easter. They will be summarizing the information we learned from reading the textbook and creating two slides for our class presentation.

In PE this week, we focused on volleyball. The students worked on their serves and bumps.

Here are the super start readers for the week!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
