We had such a busy week with a few celebrations and a number of projects to complete!!!
On June 21st, we recognized National Indigenous Peoples Day with a presentation in the gym and then a school wide round dance while Ben Calf Robe School performed four different drumming songs. It was amazing to see over 300 students participating in the round dance!
In Language Arts, the students continued working on their fairy tale illustrations. They have all been putting a lot of effort into their drawings and are very proud of their published stories.
We took some time to reminisce about our year together. As a class, we made a list of our favourite memories and then they picked their top ten to write into sentences. This will be sent home in their memory books.
The students completed a "This is Me" sheet to introduce themselves to their next year's teacher. The sheet included a photo, adjectives to describe them, a list of their interests, and how they like to learn. These will be passed onto the Grade 4 teachers before September so they can get to know a little bit about their students before they meet them.
We finished our Measurement unit in Math by exploring mass. The students compared objects using different scales to measure grams and kilograms. They also used referents to estimate the mass of certain objects.
We completed our Data Analysis unit by surveying, tallying and graphing data for our year end party. We picked four party food categories; drinks, chips, popcorn and candy. As a class, we brainstormed lists of treats for each of the categories The students made predictions and then they surveyed their classmates. The results were displayed in a bar graph. The top picks were... cream soda, ketchup chips, buttered popcorn and Jolly Ranchers.
The students learned how to describe 3D objects according to the number of edges and vertices and also by the shape of the faces.
We finished learning about Peru by reading and recording information about the culture and the government and economy. We concluded with our Peru Culture Day. The students painted their Peruvian masks and enjoyed a variety of fruit and other snacks including; oranges, mangoes, banana chips, Inca Cola, Peruvian chocolate and brownies.
We also celebrated Solstice Day, the longest day of sunlight, with a little fun soaking up the sun! The students enjoyed trying out different moves as they got wet in the sprinkler!
Thank you to our Student of the Week for sharing a yummy treat with us this week!
