Kindness Matters!

The entire school supported "PINK  SHIRT DAY" to stand up against bullying. We all wore our Pink Shirts, participated in different activities, read books and gathered in the gym to watch the "Kindness Matters" video that our school created. The link for this video can be found on our school website.

Our class also took some time to make bracelets for some special friends around the school. They loved delivering them!

In Language Arts, we started a unit on fairy tales. This week we spent a lot of time reading a variety of stories aloud to the class. Next week, we will be starting our own fairy tale story writing project.

The students also had a chance to write about their Family Day weekend fun!

We started our new Reading Groups. A letter was sent home two weeks ago about our new program. All of the students in Grade 3 have been placed into 5 different groups. Each of these groups will be completing different reading activities depending on their reading level. The students were very excited about starting this and look forward to the opportunity to work with different students within their groups.

We did a making words activity where the mystery word was Rumpelstiltskin. The students filled their sheet with smaller words!

We completed a few assessments this week relating to 3 digit addition and subtraction. We will continue working with the students on understanding word problems and next week we will begin mental math strategies.

We have been reading through our Tunisia information in our text. We continue to make jot notes together as a class. This week we read about the Services in Tunisia.

In gym this week, we worked on soccer skills. The students had a lot of practice with passing techniques and played some fun soccer skill games!

In Art, we created African animal silhouettes. Using watercolour paints, we created a sunset by blending red, orange and yellow. Next, the students picked their animal silhouette to cut out and designed their landscape. All of this was put together to create a beautiful African art project to tie in nicely with our Tunisian culture study.

The Spell-a-thon was a HUGE success!! Thank you to all of you who participated in the fundraising! We also saw huge growth from our pre-test results to the post-test!

Here are our super readers for the week!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
