Helmets Keep us Safe!

We prepared for Bike Safety week by going over the importance of wearing a helmet. The health nurses came to speak to the students about protecting their heads while riding anything with wheels. They also did a demonstration using a raw egg. One egg was dropped with a helmet and one was dropped without.

It is also important to wear a helmet that fits properly. The students were taught the three things to check. Volunteers from the Devon Bears Club came to check helmets on Friday.

This week in Language Arts, the students worked on publishing their fairy tales by typing them and sharing them with us for editing. We have been meeting with students individually to go through their stories, checking them over for proper capitalization, punctuation and spelling.

In Math, we finished our unit on Multiplication. We started Measurement by introducing the students to standard and non-standard units.

We have finished reading and taking notes about the culture in Ukraine. We will be concluding our unit with our field trip to Ukrainian Village on May 23rd.

To kick off our Life Cycles Unit we planted sunflower seeds. The students will be required to take care of their own plant.

This week we completed 2 more handwriting letters - Hh and Kk.

We also had some time to work on our memory book pages. The kids have been creating google slide pages with collages of pictures of themselves from each month. These pages will be printed off in colour and included in their Grade 3 Memory Book binder.

Here are the super readers for the week! Way to go!

Thank you to our Student of the Week for the delicious treat!! We LOVED the story you chose to read to us as well!!

We would like to wish all of the MOMS a wonderful, relaxing day on Sunday!

BRIDGES!!!

Wow!! Our class did an amazing job building bridges! They were so proud of their creations and did an excellent job presenting them!

For Education Week, the students had the opportunity to enjoy a story read by a member of the Devon Lion's Club. He also left us with a little gift which we will start reading during snack time after we finish "Stranded". We would like to thank all of the Lion's Club members who spent their morning reading to classes at Robina Baker school.

The teachers at Robina Baker hosted a Wellness Day. The students were separated into themed groups (Nature Lovers, Friendship, Body Break, Creative and Calm, Express Yourself) and rotated through three sessions. A few students from our room took part in our activity...Michelangelo Painting.

In Language Arts this week, the students worked on the Words Their Way activities. Just as a reminder, these words are on Spelling City. The students should be using this program to practice their weekly words at home.

We are approaching the end of our Multiplication unit in Math. The students worked on Star Wars multiplication booklets to celebrate "May the 4th Be With You". We will continue to work on multiplication facts throughout the remainder of the year with their daily Mad Minute drills.

For Art, we completed the Ukraine sunflower projects. We talked about different shades and how to blend chalk pastels.

Thank you to this week's Student of the Week. The students really enjoyed listening to the book he brought it to share and they LOVED the treat!

Congrats to our super reader!!
