For Language Arts this week, we finished working on our "Friends" poetry project. They filled out a brace chart, choosing two things they need for their activity. For example... If they wanted to have a sleepover with their friend, they could choose a blanket, sleeping bag, pillow, pjs, snacks, etc. After brainstorming, they started working on building their lines for their stanzas. The students were also taught how to edit their own work by reading it aloud to make sure it made sense. They looked for capitals, periods and circled words they thought were spelled incorrectly. Their published copies were done on the chrome books and printed off with a picture of a friend in 3B.
Our focus this week was synonyms and antonyms. We completed a number of activities, including brainstorming words that mean the same and words that are opposite. This will help them in their writing when they are stuck on using the same word, which we call a "tired" word.
The students are very excited about participating in the Spell-a-thon this year! They wrote a pre-test so they had a better idea of the words they need to practice before next Thursday. We have been using some class time to review the words and help them become spelling experts!
Please remember to write back to your child in their Back and Forth Journal. They really enjoy telling you about their week and get excited to read your reply when they open up their books on the following Friday.
We worked on M and N in cursive!
In Math, we worked on multiplication. The students learned how to change repeated addition into a multiplication equation. They are very excited to multiply!
We worked on Xtra Math so the students can practice their basic facts. They get ten minutes everyday to complete questions online.
The students completed one Survivor challenge this week...
We did an excellent job creating our first piece of furniture. You should feel proud of another job well done!
We spent the day collecting berries and other edible items. We need a safe place to store our food that is out of the reach of wild animals. We need to test the strength of palm tree leaves vs banana tree leaves. We found string and a pail on-board our plane.
Conclusion... The cardstock paper held more weight because it is thicker, harder and not as flimsy. For Art this week, the class worked on a friendship mural. They started by tracing their hands and then created a design. Using markers, they made careful colour choices to fill in their "Helping Hands". The display will be finished next week!
Way to go! We are so proud of our keen little readers!
Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
