We also read and discussed some stories from our Collections series, Tales - Princesses, Peas and Enchanted Trees. These stories are a variety of fables and short stories that the students are really enjoying.
During the week, we completed some review on adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers, with and without regrouping. We also reviewed how to create a number using base ten blocks, ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least and writing numbers in expanded form using numerals and words. On Friday, we completed a quiz that covered all of these concepts.
In Social, we read about the Celebrations and Services in India. We read through the textbook and completed the pages in our travel journal on this topic.
In Phys. Ed. this week, we completed a variety of activities that covered the topic of Movement and Mats. The stations worked on a variety of skills, including balancing, jumping, landing and rolling. We also played a whole body game of "Rock, Paper, Scissors".
Our class has signed up to participate in the Oilers Energize program where the students have taken a pledge to complete and record at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. Our 30 minute, daily physed block will be included in this time, so students are just encouraged to complete an additional 30 minutes at home (60 minutes on Saturday and Sunday). Some activities that can be recorded are: skiing, sledding, snowman making, swimming, hockey, dance, gymnastics, walking the dog and playing "Just Dance". The students will be responsible to record their activity and the duration in their agendas and then transfer this information to their Oilers Energize Activity Log every morning at school. Our classroom has the opportunity to win some exciting prizes!
For Art this week, we did a little penguin research, reading and highlighting important information. We then completed a pastel and watercolour picture of a penguin. They are looking great! Stay tuned for pictures of the final projects next week!
We had MANY students flying to new countries this week! We are so impressed with all the reading that took place over the break!!
