Generosity...

On Friday, the students and staff welcomed Elder Florence to RBES. She spoke at our assembly about what the word generosity means, while sharing many stories of her past. Before she shared her stories, Mrs. Kloschinsky presented her with a gift.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our "Giving Project" for the Devon Christmas Elves. In just two days, the school has collected mounds of food which is being stored in the Music room until our delivery day on Thursday, December 6th. We will still be accepting donations next week, which will go towards our class total.

In Language Arts this week, we worked on finishing activities related to Freckle Juice. The students completed a character sketch and talked about cause and effect. They also performed a skit showing their favourite part in the novel. They were asked to tell the class about the setting, characters and events that took place. The novel study wrapped up with a short comprehension quiz consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions.

This week in Math, the students learned how to add three-digit numbers with and without regrouping. They practiced their "stacking" skills by playing a new dice game with their classmates.

In Science, the students reviewed vocabulary for their lapbook and learned about the different instrument families, in order to prepare for the project that was sent home. Their completed project is due on Wednesday, December 5th and the students will be presenting them to the class on Thursday. Please make sure you have read over the project with them and guide them if needed. It is always amazing to see the variety of instruments that are designed at home!

The students also completed four labs focusing on sound proofing and sound amplification. They experimented with a variety of materials and were asked to make predictions before participating in each lab.

The stage has been set up in the gym, in preparation for the Christmas Concerts next week. We had the option of taking the class outside for PE, doing some Go Noodle activities or giving the students a stretch with some yoga. The students enjoyed the variety of activities this week to get their wiggles out!

Each class was asked to create stars to decorate the gym. Mrs. Livingstone taught the students about the northern lights. After watching a short video, the class used oil pastels to create their own stars using colours of the northern lights.

Here are the super star readers this week!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!!!
