We have a visitor from the North Pole in our class. The kids brainstormed and voted on a name for our little Elf. Sweetheart has been moving to different locations in our classroom each day and she brings a special kindness message with her. We are also keeping a little journal of where she has been found in our room. The students are adding great descriptive words to explain her location each day.
In Language Arts, we took our published "Dairy of Me" paragraphs and began illustrating them. The kids were able to use Art Hub if they wanted to and the final product was amazing! We have a very talented group of artists in our room!!
The students also wrote a letter to Santa by following a proper friendly letter format. The letters were done as a sloppy copy and then they completed a good copy which was mailed to the North Pole. We hope to receive letters back before the Christmas break begins!
In Math, we started subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping. We did some smartboard activities, whiteboard questions and some work in our workbooks. Our group is fairly confident in knowing when they need to borrow or trade 1 ten for 10 ones. We also tried some math problems in the millions for a challenge!
In Science the students watched some videos about animal hearing and completed hearing cards comparing human hearing to that of bats and owls. They looked at the highest and lowest frequencies heard and how they communicate using sound.
They also participated in an online game called Kahoot to review for their Science quiz on Tuesday.
We were so impressed with the creativity and variety of instruments that were constructed for our orchestra. Our class presented their instruments, demonstrating their knowledge of volume and pitch.
For Physed, we got active in our classroom, since the stage was set up in the gymnasium. GoNoodle offers a variety of movement activities, breathing exercises, stretches and yoga. These are great brain breaks and are sometimes used during Healthy Hearts as well.
We had some pretty happy students this week who were loving the fresh snow!!!
