In Language Arts this week, the students started writing their fractured fairy tale of "The Three Little Pigs". We are working through the story step by step to ensure the students have included all of the important story elements. They have also been including dialogue into their story and are very excited about using the quotation marks!!! They have also had the opportunity to share their writing with the class as it progresses.
The students completed a couple reading activities this week. After reading the selection, the students worked through a variety of comprehension questions, recorded the story elements (characters, setting, problem, solution) and completed vocabulary activities.
In Math, we continued working on fractions. This week the students learned how to show the same fraction in different ways within a given shape.
They have also been practicing their multiplication skills by playing "Multiplication Elimination".
This week's Yogurt Parfait Challenge was multiplication by 2. They practiced 30 questions in two minutes and were all successful in achieving 80% correct by the end of the week! Way to go!!! They were given their flash cards for the multiplication facts by 3 for next week. Their test will be on May 25th!
We finished reading about Ukraine and completed the jot notes. The students were excited to hear about their Ukraine project! The class has been divided into pairs and each group has been given a topic to work on. Each group will be working on their own topic, which will then be put together to make a whole class Google Slide presentation. They have been given two slides to complete, one slide will contain pictures of their topic and the other slide with information about their topic. They will be using their jot notes and researching on their Chrome Books to write an informative paragraph.
We had a very special delivery this week to kick off our final unit in Science, Life Cycles. Each Grade 3 class will be observing the life cycle of a butterfly. The larva (caterpillar) containers have been numbered 1-9 so the students could choose a butterfly to observe over the course of the next few weeks. Each day, they will be recording an observation in their Butterfly Journal. We are very excited to watch the changes that will take place!
Thank you to our Special Student who brought in a special snack to share with the class!
Congrats to our super reader this week!! Please continue to encourage your child to read, as our goal for the school year is to read 3000 minutes. We have many students who have reached this goal and are continuing their flight around the Amazing Race for a second time!! Way to go!!
