RBES put on a special Art Gala. Students and parents were invited to dress up and enjoy masterpieces around the school. Our class displayed 3D art and the "Sunflower" mural inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. They were very proud of their finished projects! On Friday, we all had a chance to walk around the school to check out the various art projects and leave a compliment in a box of one of our favourites.
In Language Arts, we continued learning about different kinds of poetry. The students read a visual poem called "Lazy Jane". Visual Poetry uses imagery to convey meaning. Then they were given an activity to rewrite the poem displaying the words in a different way.
They also created an Acrostic Poem, where the letters of a word or name begin each line of the poem, and each line must in turn relate to the word. The students created their acrostic poems about a family member or friend.
The students continued to work on their "All About Me" writing project by drafting a rough copy, typing it in Google Classroom so that we can edit with them and then illustrating the paragraphs.
We finished our multiplication unit in Math by recognizing patterns in multiples of odd numbers; 3, 5, 7 and 9.
We also looked at different addition sentences to see which ones could be written as multiplication sentences. We used this to simplify finding the perimeter of different shapes.
We also played a couple math games ~ Penguin Multiplication and Multiplication Battleship. The students are able to practice their multiplication math facts in both of these games.
In Social, we put together our Tunisia lapbook so that we could have all of the headings ready. This week we read about life in the city and the country. We also learned about traditions and celebrations in the Tunisian culture. We added information about food, transportation, sports, festivals and language.
On Thursday, we joined Canadians across the country and wore sports jerseys to show support for the victims of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
We are super proud of our Amazing Race readers this week! Way to go!
We had an exciting box of visitors come to our class this week! The students were thrilled to touch and watch some baby chicks that Audrey's Nana and Papa brought in for us to see. Thank you!!
Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!!
