We also read Snow Globe Family. We discussed the story elements and how the snow globe family and the family from the big house were alike and different. We also summarized the story by writing about the main characters, problem and events leading up to a solution.
We completed a making words activity where the mystery word was SNOWFLAKES. The students did a great job building many 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 letter words. This activity reinforces basic word family rules and helps with spelling strategies.
We completed some reading assessments this week. This is one tool used in finding a "best fit" reading level for your child. Comprehension is a critical part of reading. In this assessment, the students read grade level material individually and are then asked to answer various comprehension questions that test knowledge, story elements and vocabulary understanding.
In Math we continued 3 digit addition with regrouping. Our class is doing an excellent job with this outcome. They are confident and enjoy being challenged with larger numbers. Please practice this concept with your child at home.
When they completed their work they played "Slam Dunk" using their expert regrouping skills!
We also started subtraction without regrouping. We used base ten blocks to build the original number and then found the difference between the two numbers. The students were very excited to subtract large numbers using the standard algorithm method.
The students had some time to explore "Mathletics". They can also access this from home using their username and password which is in the front of their agendas.
This week we completed the handwriting letters Ee and Nn. We were able to spell many of our classmates names using the letters we've already done.
In Social this week, we completed our travel journal to India by comparing the communities, regions, environment, goods and services, natural resources, technology and transportation to that of Canada. We will wrap up our study of India with our Cultural Day on Friday.
We had one eager student who did a bit of India research at home and then shared it with the class!
We have a super reader! Way to go!
