Super Hero Day!

Some of our students celebrated Robina Baker's Super Hero Day by wearing their favourite t-shirts and costumes.

In Language Arts, we continued working on our fairy tale stories. The students started writing their rough draft by introducing the hero/heroine and the setting they had created. Next week, they will work on the problem and the events that happen leading up to their solution.

We also read some stories in our Collections Series. The students have become more comfortable reading in front of the class and most are eager to volunteer.

This week in Math, we worked on creating multiplication equations from repeated addition. The students also learned how to make multiplication sentences from illustrations showing groups of objects. 4+4+4=12

Our Science challenges this week had the students working with fasteners and connectors. The first challenge was to make straw cubes by using plasticine, pipe cleaners and paper clips. The students concluded that the plasticine was the best way to make a straw cube. It was the strongest and held the most weight.

The second challenge had the students using plasticine, marshmallows and puffed cereal to join toothpicks to make a cube. Then they tested to see how much mass the cubes were able to hold. They were able to conclude that different fasteners do not hold the same mass, with plasticine being the strongest.

For Art, we worked on a special project that will be done by the entire school and displayed during Education Week in May. We read the story "Only One You" by Linda Kranz. The students pulled out some powerful messages throughout the story... being unique is important, everyone is different, standing out is okay, making mistakes helps you learn...
..."find your own way, you don't have to follow the crowd. Blend in when you need to, stand out when you have the chance."

Each student in the school will create their own unique rock. The students started off by painting their rock a metallic colour for the base. Then we spent some time talking about different designs (polka dots, zig zags, stripes, waves, swirls).

Here are our 3B super readers this week! Way to go!!!

Congratulations to our new "Student of the Week"!
