Remembrance Day...

This week, we decided to write letters to our soldiers, veterans and heroes. We learned how to format a friendly letter and then the students wrote a paragraph thanking the heroes for their dedication and sacrifice and another paragraph to tell them a bit about themselves. These will be delivered in hopes to make our heroes feel appreciated by these young Canadians.

The students were given the following Journal prompt for this week...
"On Remembrance Day we will take time to remember the people who fought for our freedom. We will be completely quiet and still for one minute to remember. What will you think about during your one minute of silence?"

On Wednesday, we had our school wide Remembrance Day assembly. The students sang a very heartfelt song that brought tears to a few of the parents and staff members. We also had some special guests join us for the ceremony. The pictures and school song were sent to you by email from Mrs. Kloschinsky.

We read a novel together as a class. The chapter book we chose to read was called "Freckle Juice". Before reading we looked at all of the different book covers and made predictions about what the book would be about. As we read, we stopped to talk about certain vocabulary words, the setting, characters, problem and solution. The students loved the book so much that we ended up reading it all this week. A few students took the books home for the weekend to read. Please make sure these books are returned by Monday so we can pass them on to the next Grade 3 class. Thank you!

In Math, the students worked on changing numerals to number words.
For example...73=seventy three.
They also read number words and wrote the numerals.
For example... five hundred forty three=543

We finished up our Rocks and Minerals lapbook by reviewing the layers of the Earth and vocabulary words for the unit. The students were also given the opportunity to bring in a special rock to show the class. They were asked to talk about the properties of the rock, such as, luster, shape, colour, size, and hardness.

To conclude the Science unit the students were given a short open book quiz to demonstrate how they can pull information from their lapbook.

We have some very eager students who are doing research on their own time. This week we had two Google slide presentations! The first one was a project about dolphins and the second was about the solar system. We love that the students are so interested in teaching the class about things they are passionate about!

Here are our super flyers for the week!!! Way to go!

We hope that you all have a wonderful long weekend!
