Clay...

This week, the students were involved in a clay project. The "Clay Guy" taught us how to make Peruvian masks. Step-by-step, the students created their own unique cultural art piece. Thank you to the wonderful parent volunteers who came to help us with this project! In a few weeks, our projects will be sent back to us, ready for painting.

For Language Arts this week, we have been working on illustrating our published stories. The students have been working so hard on their pictures. They have even been searching how to draw certain animals.

We have also started reading "Charlotte's Web". We are all really enjoying this book and most of the class has fallen in love with Wilbur, the pig. We think they may want a pet pig of their very own! We have been stopping frequently throughout the book, discussing new vocabulary words.

We also continued to read from our Collection series. We enjoyed a story called "Building Tunnels". This story tied in nicely with the Building/Survivor unit we just finished.

In Science, we started our new unit on "Life Cycles". Students have been partnered up and are working on learning about a specific animal. They will be researching the characteristics, food it needs to survive, habitat and the life cycle. Their information will then be put into a Google Slide presentation so that they can teach the class about what they learned. This week, they have been looking through books and on the internet to make jot notes.

In Social, the students have been divided into 4 groups to research about our final country, Peru!
The groups have been assigned a specific area to become experts on and share with the class. They are recording all information gathered on chart paper and will transfer this information to a "suitcase" to present to the class. They are using library books, the text book and chrome books to research their area.

In Math, we finished up our unit with a "show what you know" of multiplication and division. The students did very well on this and we will be moving on to study fractions next week.
