Valentine's Day...

Finishing our Valentine boxes...

In Math, we took notes on the strategies we have learned so far when adding and we had a little 10 question review activity.

We learned a few new Math games this week, Square Doubling and Slam Dunk, to get some extra practice on addition with 3 digit numbers. We also had an addition quiz which all of the kids did very well on. It looks like we are ready to move onto subtraction next week.

Square Doubling...

Slam Dunk...

In Language Arts, we read the story "The Gruffalo" and discussed descriptive paragraphs. The Monster Out My Window, was a paragraph that Mrs. Forchuk wrote to go along with her illustration. Mrs. Tewitz then had to draw the matching monster using ONLY the descriptive paragraph.

The students began drawing their own monsters and worked on their descriptive paragraphs. It is a SECRET project right now and they are not allowed to share any of their information with their classmates. Next week, we will trade paragraphs.

We read "The Lad Who Went to the North Wind", from the Collections Series. As we read, we stop frequently, dissecting what we read together. We talk about what is happening in the story and the meaning of unknown words.

The students voted on a new read aloud called "Nurk", for the daily snack break.

In Social, we put together our lap books for Tunisia. As we read information from the textbook, we will be adding it to the flaps and pockets of our Tunisia book. Putting them together was a big project, but the students love having lapbooks to keep all of their information.

FINALLY...warm enough to build a snowman at recess!

Jump Rope for Heart took place in the Gym on Friday. Thank you to all of the families who sent in donations for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Students were also entered into a draw for some great prizes.

On Friday afternoon, 3FT celebrated Valentine's Day. The students delivered special cards and treats to their classmates and then had a few minutes to go through their monster mailboxes. Minute To Win It was next on our party agenda. We played Stack It with conversation hearts and then used a straw to move the hearts! This was easy for some and very challenging for others but they all had a ton of fun!

Students also brought in a few games to enjoy with their friends.

Thank you to all of the parents who sent in food for our celebration. We had quite the feast!

Reminders for next week... no school on Monday. Enjoy an "unplugged" day with your family! Fruit orders are due on Tuesday and it is Rainbow Day on Wednesday! There will be no spelling next week.
