Our "Miss Smith" adventure stories were published this week! They did a wonderful job and will enjoy reading and sharing them with their classmates. The students also enjoyed illustrating a cover for their story, which is important to grab the attention of potential readers.
We read "Mother Holle" from the Collections series. We read together as a class daily, as it is important to allow the students to be able to practice their expression and fluency. We also stop periodically as we read together, to make predictions and talk about what is happening in the story.
In Math, we started 3 digit addition. We used base ten blocks to help us understand regrouping ones and tens.
Students also had to build three digit numbers using dice. Their partners then had to add the two 3 digit numbers together.
We continued talking about decibels in Science. We used an app to see how the decibels changed within our classroom.
This is our classroom with normal background noise from the hallway. |
This is our classroom with 17 students screaming as loud as they could! |
We then looked at the decibels of different sounds such as, a rock concert, vacuuming, a jet plane and a whisper. We graphed these numbers and compared our findings.
We also did a research project to compare the similarities and differences between human and animal hearing.
In Social, we finished colouring the Tunisia coat of arms, which represents freedom, order and justice. We will start our Tunisia lapbooks next week.
