Jurassic Bark Performance

We had a last minute surprise performance from Jurassic Bark this week. It was about a dog named Rex, who is a stray and has a hard time sharing his things. Polly is a paleontologist who spends her time digging in the dirt. These two strangers come across a huge, mysterious bone deep in the ground and have to work together to discover where it came from. It is set in Alberta's world-famous Badlands and explores our relationship to the creatures who came before us and shows us what we can learn from playing in the dirt.

This week, we were lucky to have Darren Maltais from Blackgold School Division come in to our classroom to do a technology lesson with our kids. He showed the students how to complete an online "Break Out" puzzle. They loved trying to solve different riddles, mazes and clues to complete the puzzle. Here is link if you would like to try it at home. https://games.breakoutedu.com/  We completed a level 2 with our grade 3 class.

The students received their new list for Words Their Way. They worked on their sorts, alphabetical order, draw and label, sentences and word search. They also spent some time completing activities on Spelling City.

We also continued working on the rough drafts of their fairy tales. The students started writing the middle of the story to include a introduction to the problem.

In Math, we continued to work on multiplication sentences. We learned how to find the product using a number line and an array.

We finished our Survivor unit by testing the strength of different shapes. The students completed activities and reinforced shapes to make stronger ones.

We will conclude our "Building and Testing" unit this week by having the students present their bridge projects. We can't wait!

We started learning about Ukraine this week. The students made a title page for their new booklets. We talked about the flag and the significance of the colours, the blue symbolizing the sky and the yellow symbolizing the wheat fields.

We also began reading from the text book and making jot notes in our social duotangs. The information is divided into categories like food, environment and services.

In gym on Friday, Mr. Larson introduced us to some Indigenous games. We will have an opportunity to play these games again this week during gym class.

For Art, we began a 2 part sunflowers project. The sunflower is Ukraine's national flower.

Here are the super star readers for this week!
