Our last two days together...

We enjoyed our last two fun filled days of school. The students were excited to spend some free time in the pool on Monday morning! They loved hanging out with their friends and trying out the diving boards!
In the afternoon, the whole school participated in Fun Day! The teachers set up a variety of activities to celebrate the Summer Olympics. The kids enjoyed face painting, potato sack races, monster ball relays, Olympic ring toss and much more!!!

On Tuesday, we autographed beach balls. We hope this is a great keep sake for the students!
Then we headed to the Telus World of Science. Mr. Larson organized a number of outdoor games for the students to play before we headed to McDonald's for lunch.
Our last stop was the "Flight of the Butterflies" at the IMAX theatre. The students put on their 3D glasses and enjoyed an informative video about the lifecycle and migration of monarch butterflies.
After the IMAX we headed back to the school to hand out report cards and memory books! We hope you and your child will take some time to look through the memory book together!

We truly enjoyed watching your child grow throughout the school and will miss this bunch of students!

We wish you and your families a wonderful summer and we will see you in the fall!

Last Full Week...

Wow! We just finished our last full week of Grade 3!!
We completed our Swim at School program and the students will be receiving their report cards for it on Monday.
The students really enjoyed swimming lessons this year and often talked about the new skills they were developing!
Our camping stories were typed and the students illustrated their title pages. These stories have been put into their memory books and will be sent home on Tuesday.
The students also worked on a couple different Readers Theatres this week. They preformed these for the class.
We brainstormed our favourite memories of Grade 3. The students picked their top ten for the memory book.
Our Peru masks had the weekend to dry and were painted on Monday. They turned out really well!!
The students shared what they learned about the Peruvian culture. Each group researched ten or more key points about their assigned topic.
Our Life Cycle research projects and posters were completed and presented to the class. The students worked in pairs. They did a great job!
We had a session on Farm Safety. The students learned about protecting our hearing around noisy equipment.
We enjoyed some buddy reading this week! We paired up with the Grade 1 class across the hall from us and took turns reading. All of the students enjoyed this time.
What a beautiful week!! We sure enjoyed some fresh air, healthy hearts time!
Our year end party was short but fun! The students played some board games, munched on tasty snacks and watched the 2015-16 slideshow movie that Mrs. Kloschinsky made! We will share the link to this video when it has been uploaded.
Congratulations to our new "Students of the Week"!

Peru Day!

We celebrated Peru culture by eating some delicious food and creating a few crafts. Thank you so much to Rebekah Ott for preparing all of the food for the students to try. We had quite an assortment and they really enjoyed it! Some went back for second and third helpings!
We also learned how to make Peruvian Wave bracelets.
They used a variety of recycled materials to create Peru masks. These will dry over the weekend and we will paint them metallic colours next week.
In Language Arts this week, we worked on illustrating our All About Me writing project.
We continued reading from our Collections series. A few students are working on performing a readers theatre for the class.
We also worked on a writing project for our Grade 3 Memory Books. The students brainstormed a list of what they learned in Grade 3. They then chose their favourite 10 to write about.
In Math, we finished our unit on Multiplication and Division. The students wrote their quiz and then we went over the answers together in class. Our last unit is Graphing and Data Analysis. We began surveying classmates in order to find out what our favourite foods would be for our year end party. This week we graphed the results of favourite chips, drinks and popcorn flavours.
We have finished our multiplication mad minutes and will be doing division this week. Ask your child to explain how multiplication relates to division.
We are in the finishing stages of our Peru suitcases and our Life Cycles posters. The students will be presenting these this week.
For the next two weeks the students will be learning skills in the pool. They seem to be really enjoying the lessons! Let's hope the weather cooperates next week.
The rest of our butterflies emerged this week. We fed them watermelon and a mixture of water and Gatorade. At the end of the week we decided it was time to let them be free. The students gathered around outside and had the opportunity to say good-bye.
We still have some keen readers!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
