April is POETRY MONTH! We have started a poet study on Shel Silverstein. We will been working through a variety of activities and reading poems and stories by this hilarious author.
This week we have also been focusing on writing sentences with interesting beginnings. Students were given simple sentences and asked to add beginnings.
Some student examples...
___________ , I planted some flower seeds in the garden.
In the summer...
In the middle of spring...
The day before yesterday...
___________ , you can see birds carrying food into their nests for their babies.
On the old hospital roof...
From high above...
In the grassy backyard...
We have started a new unit in Math and will be learning multiplication and division. To launch the unit, we read a book called "Amanda Bean's Amazing Dream".
We learned how to write multiplication sentences and find products when given a picture showing groups of equal items.
In Science, we continued testing different types of connectors. This week we used marshmallows, puffed wheat and plasticine to connect toothpicks in the shape of a cube. We then tested how much weight the cube could hold with each of the connectors.
We continued reading about Ukrainian culture. We will be celebrating Ukraine on Monday afternoon. Next week we will also begin writing travel brochures.
In Art, we talked about reflections and symmetry. Using watercolours students created a painting of a reflection seen in a puddle.
Together, we drew a picture of ourselves holding an umbrella.
Then we carefully painted our drawings, using bright, bold colours.
On the bottom of the painting, we created the reflection in the puddle.
Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
