Ukrainian Village

Well, the students enjoyed every minute at the Ukrainian Village. It was an extremely busy day, filled with a ton of activities to choose from. Our class participated in; ice cream making, dancing/music entertainment, paper doll making, butter churning, feather stripping, flailing/winnowing and seeing inside a real grain elevator. THANK YOU so much to the parents who joined us on the trip!

After returning from our field trip, the students wrote about their favourite activities on their "Field Trip Wrap Up".

We also decided to "churn" our own butter since we didn't have the opportunity to taste it at Ukrainian Village. With teamwork, it didn't take long at all!

The students worked on illustrating the cover pages of their fractured fairy tales.

This week we finished our Statistics and Probability unit in Math. The students said it was the BEST Math unit of the entire year. They collected data by surveying the class in order to plan the snacks for our year end party. We surveyed the following categories; popcorn, chips, candy and drinks. The winners in each category were... Extreme Doritos (black bag), Chicago Mix popcorn, Skittles and Strawberry Lemonade. The students then created bar graphs with the data they collected.

In Social Studies, we continued learning about Peru. The students also enjoyed a special presentation from one of the Grade 3 moms, Mrs. Ott. She talked to the students about the climate and brought in some items from her trip to Peru. Then she treated the students to a variety of Peruvian dishes including; Tres Leches cake, Onion and Tomato Curtido salad, fresh mango, Sweet Plantain Chips, chocolate and Inca Cola.

The students also worked on bracelets during their Peru celebration.

The staff and students from Grades 1-4 celebrated Indigenous Day at the EIA. We watched a variety of dance categories, enjoyed some amazing hoop dancing, fiddling and Metis jigging. The students also had the opportunity to participate in the round dance.

We also had a guest reader who shared her favourite legend with the class.

One of the students also brought in the entire life cycle of a frog; eggs, tadpoles, froglets and frogs!

Congratulations to our new Student of the Week!
